Plan Your Skate Ramp Space and Fit
Plan before you build
You need room for the ramp itself, the way you will skate it, and access around it.
Start with the ramp you want to skate and the space you have. If you are comparing kits, use the finished dimensions of each model and configuration. If you are planning a DIY or custom ramp, sketch its proposed dimensions and mark anything that still needs to be confirmed. Then map the approach, roll-away, overhead space and route for delivery and assembly. There is no single clearance number that works for every ramp, rider and property.
The goal is more sessions at home, not a ramp you have to work around. Use this guide to turn your garage, driveway or backyard measurements into a useful plan before you order.

Measure the space that can actually be used
Bring a tape measure, paper and your phone for photos. Work in the same units throughout, and label the date and product configuration on your sketch.
- Draw the usable area. Mark boundaries, doorways and fixed obstructions.
- Add the ramp at its finished size. Include decks or platforms shown in the product specifications.
- Draw the skating path. Show where you approach, use the feature and roll away.
- Check above and around it. Include overhead obstructions, everyday access and the delivery route.
A driveway, garage or yard dimension is not automatically the usable skate area. Cars, doors, columns, fences, slopes, drains, landscaping, stored items and normal walkways can remove part of that space.
Sketch the area from above and mark every fixed obstruction. Record the narrowest usable width and length, not the widest points. Then add the chosen ramp or obstacle at its finished dimensions.
Different ramps need different layout checks
Half pipes and mini ramps
Plan the complete structure, including both transitions, the flat bottom and any decks. The back-and-forth riding takes place within the ramp, but getting onto the decks and moving around it still need space. Compare half pipes and mini ramps using the full dimensions of the configuration you want.
Quarter pipes
Include the flat-ground approach to the transition and the return path after a kickturn or other intended use. With a pair, draw both ramps and the space between them; two separate footprints do not describe the whole line. Explore quarter pipes before plotting the layout.
Grind boxes and ledges
A box can take up relatively little floor space while the approach and roll-away extend well beyond it. Draw the directions you intend to skate, including different approaches for grinds, slides or manuals where the product supports them. Compare grind boxes and ledges with those paths in mind.

Copy the records above into your notes and add your measurements beside each one. Save the product link or configuration name with the worksheet. A measurement without the configuration can become useless if a different height, width or surface option is selected later.
Start with the finished dimensions
Use the product page for the selected model and configuration. Dimensions from a similar-looking ramp, old article or photo are not a substitute. Width, total length, height, decks and extensions can differ within the same broad category.
For more than one obstacle, measure each item separately and draw each approach and exit. Adding product footprints together does not show whether the layout can actually be skated.
Map the movement around the product
The structure occupies one area. The skating occupies more.
Draw the direction a rider will approach, use and leave each feature. Mark doors, walls, fences, parked vehicles, stairs and other features that could interrupt that path. If the setup will be shared, consider how another person can wait or move through the area without standing in the active route.
Clearance depends on the product, rider and intended use. If the plan relies on a very tight margin, treat it as specific to that layout. Ask OC Ramps about the fit with your product link, labeled sketch and photos when a dimension or access requirement remains unclear.

Check the height above the setup
Indoor and covered spaces need a vertical plan as well as a floor plan. Record the lowest ceiling point and every door track, opener, beam, light, fan, pipe, shelf or other fixed item above or beside the intended area.
For garages, also test the space with the door in every position that will be used. The product can fit on the floor and still conflict with the door system or normal household access.
Treat the foundation and drainage as separate decisions
A riding-surface upgrade cannot correct an unsuitable base beneath the ramp. Record the ground, slope, low points, drainage path and how the structure will sit on the site.

Plan the delivery path and the build area
The finished ramp may fit where the shipment cannot travel or where the parts cannot be staged. Measure gates, doorways, turns and the route from the delivery point to the build area. Keep delivery responsibilities separate from assembly responsibilities.

Then reserve a clean area where parts can remain organized during the build. The active riding area does not prove that every package and component will fit through the access route.
Compare layouts before comparing upgrades
When two products could fit, draw both to scale and include their surrounding use zones. Compare:
- the desired skating each layout supports;
- how much of the site remains usable;
- access to decks, platforms and surrounding paths;
- build and delivery constraints;
- surface and care requirements;
- whether future additions still have a practical place.
A wider or taller configuration is useful only when the full layout can use it. A compact product is useful only when the remaining approach and exit make sense.
Run the final fit check before ordering
- Verify the product and selected configuration.
- Recheck finished width, length or depth, and height.
- Recheck approach, roll-away, side and deck access.
- Recheck ceiling and fixed overhead conditions.
- Recheck delivery access and assembly staging.
- Recheck base, slope and drainage.
- Recheck household access, storage and future plans.
- Save the sketch, measurements and product link for anyone helping with the decision.
If one critical value is missing, pause the product decision. Measuring again costs less than forcing a larger ramp into a layout that was never complete.

Can I use a property listing, survey or satellite image instead of measuring the site?
Use those sources to start a sketch, not to replace field measurements. They may omit slopes, door hardware, gates, stored items, landscaping or recent changes. Measure the area, overhead conditions and access path in person, then mark which values came from direct measurement. If a critical value is still unclear, pause the final product choice and ask OC Ramps to review the plan.
How should I measure an irregular or narrowing space?
Divide the usable area into simple sections and record each section's narrowest width and length. Mark every pinch point, fixed obstruction and change in direction. A diagonal or disconnected pocket counts only when the scaled layout proves the product, approach and exit can use it.
What photos make a fit review more useful?
Take wide photos from each end of the proposed setup, plus clear views of overhead obstructions, the base, drainage, gates, doorways, turns and the delivery point. Include a visible tape measurement where practical and label the intended product orientation. Photos support the measurements; they do not replace the written dimensions or selected product link.
When should I measure the site again?
Recheck after selecting the final model and options, after any site or storage change, and before delivery plans are locked. Measure again if a gate, garage system, vehicle location, landscaping or foundation work has changed. Keep the newest dated sketch with the selected product so an older plan is not mistaken for the active one.
Who should review the layout before I order?
Include the person buying the ramp, the regular rider, the property owner when different, and anyone responsible for receiving or assembling it. Each person sees a different constraint, from daily access to unloading and build staging.
