Can I just purchase a Marine Varnish from the store instead of Skate Paint?

NO! Although Skate Paint is similar to a Marine Varnish, the two are completely different when dried. Using a Marine Varnish on your ramp will cause it to become too slippery to ride and, therefore, damaging the ramp.

What’s the difference between Skatelite or Gator Skins?

The biggest difference between these two materials is the brand name. Both Skatelite and Gator Skins serve the same purpose and, in our opinion, are of the same quality. These are both ¼” thick weatherproof panels which will not only protect your ramp from the wear and tear that comes with various weather conditions but will also provide optimal traction for a smooth skate session. Which material you choose will be dependent on your preference and budget as Gator Skins do come in at a lower price point than Skatelite.

If I purchase Skatelite or Gator Skins do I still need Skate Paint?

Yes! We do recommend that you still purchase Skate Paint as Skatelite and Gator Skins do not cover the entire ramp. These panels will only cover the skate surface of the ramp. You will still want to apply the Skate Paint to the two top decks, the sides and the back sides of the ramp. DO NOT apply Skate Paint on top of Skatelite or Gator Skins.

Does Skate Paint come in any different colors or can I paint my ramp a different color?

Skate Paint does NOT come in any colors other than clear. You are able to paint your ramp if that is what you would like to do. If utilizing Skate Paint, you must apply Skate Paint to bare plywood and allow it to completely dry before applying any other paint. When adding a colored paint to your ramp, you will want to make sure that this is an exterior, flat latex paint. You need to ensure that it is not a glossy paint as this will cause the ramp too slippery to ride.

I don’t know anything about Skateboarding, what should I get my skater kid?

Any of our products are very user friendly for any age & any level skater. We always say it boils down to the space where you’ll store the items and your budget. Any item you choose your kid would be stoked!

How long will it take for me to receive my order?

If you ordered one of our smaller ramp kits, our turnaround time is approximately 1 - 2 weeks. If you ordered one of our larger ramp kits, our turnaround time is approximately 3 - 4 weeks.

How easy is it to assemble your ramp kits?

Just need some handy skills with an impact drill. Each skateboard ramp kit comes with pre-cut and pre-drilled boards. The instructions manual has step by step directions with photos and the screws are already pre-counted! Our larger halfpipe kits do require a saw & tape measurer. If you’re not handy with a power drill you may want to ask your neighbor (or friend) to help assist.

How long does it take to build a kit?

Varies upon your skill of a drill and instructions, can take anywhere from 1-8 hours. More hands on deck to assist will make the process quicker.

What surface is best to store a halfpipe on?

Half Pipes can be placed on grass, dirt, gravel or concrete. We do suggest elevating the ramp above surface level to avoid future undercarriage damage with concrete pavers, which also helps with minor leveling. The surface has to be as level as possible. Quarter Pipes need to be placed over concrete, cement, or asphalt. Fortunately, the quarter pipes are mobile and can be moved in and out of the garage, driveway or side yard.

How long do these ramps last?

We use all natural exterior grade A plywood. With that said, these skateboard ramps do require basic treatment and care. For starters, coat any outdoor ramp with Skatepaint and/or Gatorskins/Skatelite Pro. Plus with the use of a plastic tarp would also be very helpful and adds further longevity.

Choose the riding surface before you finish the ramp

The top sheet is the part of the ramp your wheels meet every run. OC Ramps offers GatorSkins and Skatelite panels for building or refreshing that riding surface. Whether you are upgrading a kit or planning a DIY ramp, compare the actual panel dimensions, finish and preparation options before deciding what to order.

A riding sheet is one part of the construction, not a complete ramp. Keep the supporting structure, panel layout and installation requirements in the same plan. Replacing the top layer does not correct damaged material underneath it.

Compare GatorSkins and Skatelite by the panels you will receive

GatorSkins panels measure 48 by 94 inches and are available in Brown or Green. Those are separate color choices, not a promise that you can reverse one panel to change colors. The 94-inch length is two inches shorter than a full eight-foot sheet, which matters when you lay out cuts and seams.

The Skatelite panel measures four by eight feet and is one-quarter inch thick, with a natural wood-tan finish. Do not treat the two products' nominal size labels as identical cutting plans. Compare the current product specifications and the finished appearance you want, then work out the pieces your ramp needs.

Choose panel preparation that matches your build

Both product pages offer an optional pre-drill, countersink and cut service for OC Ramps kits. If you are ordering for an eligible kit, that option handles those preparation steps before installation. Make sure the kit and configuration are clear when arranging preparation.

For a DIY design, choose the option without that kit-specific service and plan the sheet layout to your own build. A simple area calculation can help estimate material, but it does not account for every cut, seam or offcut. Use the actual surface measurements and installation instructions to finalize the order rather than rounding the ramp footprint into a sheet count.

Keep surface upgrades and wood protection separate

GatorSkins and Skatelite are riding panels; Skate Paint is a coating for compatible exposed wood. Do not paint over the GatorSkins or Skatelite top sheets. A ramp with a separate riding surface can still have wooden parts and fasteners that need inspection and care.
