Choose a kit when the size and design fit

A kit can be a strong path when an existing product matches the skating, rider, footprint and intended setup. Check what is included, what still needs assembly and which upgrades change the build on the exact product page.

Do not assume every piece is cut, drilled, surfaced or packaged the same way across the catalog. Review the selected product, configuration and matching instructions before choosing this path.

Choose DIY when the build is part of the goal

DIY means taking responsibility for the reviewed design, material choices, sourcing, cutting, assembly, inspection and corrections. It can be a rewarding project when the builder wants that work and has the right plans, tools, time and site.

Use only current, technically reviewed plans. An article, photo, material list or old drawing is not automatically a complete construction plan.

If you do not have a current, technically reviewed plan for the exact build, choose another path or ask OC Ramps for guidance.

Choose custom when the standard answer does not fit

Choose a custom build when you want a skatepark designed around your space and the people who will skate it. OC Ramps builds backyard, public and business skateparks. Start with the features you want, the usable space and how you want the features to work together.

Use the real project to break a tie

Make the comparison practical. For every job above, record who will do it, its cost, what remains unknown and whether that uncertainty would stop you from starting. A materials-only DIY price is not equivalent to an assembled custom project.

  • Choose a kit to use an existing design: ask OC Ramps what arrives prepared, what you assemble and what upgrades change. Include your tools, help and site preparation.
  • Choose DIY when building is part of the experience: count the time and equipment needed to source, cut and assemble the materials, not just the lumber bill.
  • Explore custom when the layout drives the project: share a sketch, desired features and working budget with OC Ramps. Confirm feasibility and exactly what the proposal includes.

For example, a backyard mini ramp does not automatically require a custom build. Compare the available kit dimensions first. If none fits the intended layout, or you want several features designed together, use your measurements to start a custom-build conversation.

Write down the work you can realistically complete yourself, the help you would need and the result that matters most. Then compare the same project across the three paths, rather than comparing a material bill with a fully scoped build.

Choose a kit when the current product fits and the remaining build work is acceptable. Choose DIY when the building process is part of the desired project and reviewed plans support it. Choose custom when the site or intended result cannot be solved well with a standard product.

Is DIY always the least expensive path?

Not automatically. Price the exact project, including plans, materials, tools, time, waste, corrections, surface work and site preparation.

Does a kit remove all building work?

No. The product page and matching instructions define what is prepared and what still needs assembly, site work or finishing.

When does custom make more sense?

When the users, site, line, approvals or operating requirements cannot be met by a current standard product. A custom project still needs scope and feasibility review.

Can I start with a kit and expand later?

Yes, when the first product works on its own and the future layout preserves approach, roll-away, delivery access and compatibility. Draw the later setup before the first purchase so the starting product does not block it.
