Whether you are finishing a new plywood ramp or caring for one you already skate, the coating belongs in the plan. OC Ramps Skate Paint is a clear coating designed for wooden skateboard ramps. Choose the quantity for the surfaces you will coat and the work you can complete together, rather than buying by the ramp's footprint alone.
Skate Paint is not a replacement riding sheet or a repair for damaged plywood. Start with sound, properly prepared wood, then follow the application directions. Our Ramp Care guide brings coating, inspection and ongoing upkeep together so you can plan beyond the first coat.
Choose a quart, a gallon or a five-gallon project
The one-quart size covers approximately 50 square feet, while one gallon covers approximately 150 to 200 square feet. Measure all the wooden areas you intend to coat, including exposed sides and decks where applicable. A full four-by-eight-foot sheet is 32 square feet on one face, not counting its edges or reverse side.
The five-gallon bucket suits a larger coordinated job. It is not automatically the best choice for several small projects spread over time: opened Skate Paint must be used within 24 hours. Separate smaller containers can make more sense when different parts of the project will be ready on different days. Coverage figures are approximate, so use the product directions to finalize your quantity.
Know when you need paint and when you need a riding surface
Skate Paint coats compatible wood such as plywood and framing lumber. GatorSkins and Skatelite Pro are separate riding-surface products, not finishes you create by painting plywood. Do not apply Skate Paint over those top sheets, Masonite or tempered hardboard.
If you are deciding what to skate on, compare the ramp surface options before choosing your coating. A ramp with a separate top sheet can still have exposed wooden parts that need care. Treat the top surface and the rest of the structure as different parts of the plan rather than assuming one upgrade eliminates all maintenance.
Prepare the job before you open the can
Get the surfaces and tools ready before opening Skate Paint. Follow its directions for preparation, application and drying, and keep the ramp out of use while the coating dries. Plan the work around the next session instead of opening the can and hoping to skate immediately afterward.
