Start with the tricks you want to spend time on. A long straight edge, a curved ledge and a multi-height obstacle invite different approaches. If manuals are the main goal, compare the top's usable width and height with the Manny Pad, not just the overall length.
Compare the edge and the riding space
For a straight grind box, compare the four-, six- and eight-foot models by the space you have and the length of feature you want to skate. A longer box gives you more obstacle to work with, but it also needs a clear approach and exit. Height affects how you get onto it; top width matters when your line uses the platform rather than only the edge.
Check which edges have metal and how the specific obstacle is meant to be approached. Do not assume every box has the same hardware on both sides. Product photos, specifications and included components should tell the same story before you choose.
Leave room to get on and roll away
A box is only one part of the line. Measure the run-up and roll-away on the surface where you will skate, and think about whether the obstacle will stay there or need to be stored between sessions. Check the assembled size and handling requirements rather than assuming every ledge can be moved by one person.
