Thousand Oaks Teen Center Custom Build

Thousand Oaks Teen Center Custom Build

The teen center thousand oaks reached out to us last summer and they let us know that they were looking for a custom build by the OC Ramps crew. The customer, who is in charge of the center, had a couple ideas of what the local teens would like to skate. We set up a couple of meetings to discuss their ideas of what they wanted to skate, the teen centers budget, the space they had to work with, and any other logistics. There was also some discussion about doing wood obstacles versus doing some concrete ramps. Ultimately, the center's budget was in favor of going the custom wooden ramp route. Also, in the case that the ramp ever needed to be moved, they wanted mobility of the obstacles. It is much easier to disassemble a wood ramp versus having to jack hammer out concrete obstacles. After several months of the centers internal planning and fundraising, they notified us that they were ready to have the ramps installed just before Christmas!

So the OC Ramps crew prepped as many pieces as we could at the warehouse and we went out with a big crew of about 7 guys. We installed it in a single day! Essentially what they wanted was a 16 foot wide half pipe with an extension… but they wanted extended top decks, guard rails, and they wanted to add another quarter pipe and bank ramp perpendicular to the halfpipe. The final product looked very similar to a bowl, just without the bowl corners! Just as the sun was setting, we were able to apply a clear coat of our skate paint to protect it from the outdoor elements. As we were building and painting, lots of teenagers stopped by anxiously waiting for the ramp to be finished so they could skate it. Needless to say the youth of Thousand Oaks are super stoked with the end result!
