Protect the plywood behind your next session

Coating a larger wooden ramp? One gallon of Skate Paint covers about 150 to 200 square feet, giving you a clear finish designed for wooden skate ramps. Measure the areas you want to protect, prepare the job, and give the coating time to dry before the next session.

One gallon OC Ramps Skate Paint beside a wooden mini ramp

Plan around 150 to 200 square feet

A gallon is a useful step up when the job exceeds a quart’s coverage. Add up the wooden riding surface, decks and any other exposed wood you intend to coat. Use the coverage range to choose your quantity rather than assuming every ramp of the same width needs the same amount.

Keep the natural finish or make it your own

The coating is clear, letting the grain and construction remain visible. If a colored ramp is part of your plan, allow Skate Paint to cure before applying flat latex paint over it. Add color as a separate step, not by mixing it into Skate Paint.

Have the whole ramp ready to coat

Prepare the wood, tools and work area before opening the gallon. Opened Skate Paint must be used within 24 hours, so choose a work window that lets you complete the coating job. Break a larger project into planned quantities rather than counting on storing an opened container.

Match the coating to the material

Skate Paint is for plywood and framing lumber, not Masonite or tempered hardboard. Keep it off GatorSkins and Skatelite Pro riding sheets. On a ramp with a premium top surface, the exposed wooden parts still need their own care plan.

Leave time for drying, then keep up the care

Wait a full 24 hours before skating the coated ramp. Outdoor care continues after that first application, including using a tarp. The Ramp Care guide brings those steps together so you can plan the upkeep as well as the build.

The best sealant for your ramp

Skatepaint goes on easy, has great coverage, and is not slippery when dry. It's a little spendy (so is replacing plywood), but I wouldn't use anything else.

This was a great project with my 11year old. OC was great to deal with and their Skatepaint was a perfect final touch. Skatepaint both protects the ramp and makes the riding experience noticeable better (per my 11 year old). Would definitely recommend if you’re thinking about making a ramp.

Used skate paint on my mini ramp and it seems to be working quite well! Skates great. It did get caught in a surprise downpour when I wasn’t home and the ramp wasn’t covered. I came home and dried it with towels. Overall seemed pretty ok! Just a little warped in a couple spots but I’m sure the skate paint saved it from being destroyed. Of course should be covered for rain but this is great to have on for any outdoor ramp.

    Nice and grippy!

I surfaced my weird little barn mini ramp with luan plywood because birch is nowhere to be found these days, and Skatelite and similar are ridiculously priced. We couldn’t wait to skate it, and it was super slippery, especially as we kicked up more dust. Thankfully, I gave it all a coat of skate paint and it rides soooo much better now. Warning: it goes on super thick and tacky, so if you’re using some cheap ply like I did, you might pull off some chunks of the veneer with the roller like I did. But after curing you don’t notice it at all. This stuff basically turns cheap plywood into Skatelite for a lot less money (ok maybe not, but it’s close enough for shredding). Thanks y’all! I will probably experiment with this some more for future projects.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about 1 Gallon Ramp Skate Paint
Can I reapply 1 Gallon Ramp Skate Paint to a larger ramp without stripping the old coat?

Yes. Clear debris and clean the ramp before recoating, but there is no need to sand away the entire original Skate Paint layer. Measure the full recoat area first so one gallon can cover the intended wood without leaving a partial transition unfinished.

Will one gallon adhere over an existing colored ramp surface?

Yes. Skate Paint can be applied over an existing painted surface, though bare wood remains the preferred starting point. Inspect the old layer before coating because Skate Paint bonds to the surface beneath it; a failing or damaged base should be corrected before the gallon is applied.

Does a gallon of Skate Paint need a separate primer or wood sealer?

No. The epoxy component in Skate Paint acts as the primer, so another primer or sealer is unnecessary. Prepare clean real wood and use Skate Paint as the intended coating instead of adding products that were not designed as part of the wooden-ramp system.

How should I use 1 Gallon Ramp Skate Paint?

Use 1 Gallon Ramp Skate Paint on properly prepared exposed plywood in a compatible ramp project. Match the amount to the project, follow the current application directions, and do not apply it over GatorSkins or Skatelite Pro top sheets.

Can I return the 1 Gallon Ramp Skate Paint if it is not the right fit?

Eligible unused products may be requested for return within 30 calendar days of purchase when they are in original condition and packaging with all included parts and manuals. Customized, used, skated, damaged, or incomplete products are not eligible, and freight, original shipping, processing costs, and a restocking fee may apply. Review the current OC Ramps Return Policy before ordering.
